Happy Holidays & a Happy New Year! May 2019 be a prosperous, kind, creative, productive, good health and happy year for you all! I am currently enjoying time with my family and friends. I am working with my household to have two scrolls done for 12th Night. <crosses fingers> Best Wishes.
“We are making a list and checking it thrice,
To see whose victorious or not,
Cause Nikulai is coming to Crown”
We wrote this a few weeks before the Crown Tournament.
Phew! I think I survived the weekend… jury is still out as I am now slightly under the weather this week. 😞
Holiday Fair I scurried around drop off fundraiser products to sell for a new Canton Scribal fund, delivered new VOA pads to the MOLs and collected scrolls as I went in the morning. Then His Majesty in his wisdom made a royal decree ‘One name!’ My immediate response was ‘Sara’… leaving out which last name 😇. I was able to watch (then) Lady Amy Sparrow got put on vigil and schedule my ‘Fastpass’ slot to visit her.
Eventually, I remembered to eat breakfast once I got my scribes going to finish off their scrolls for evening court. Less then 40 minutes later I was enjoying lunch ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
Shortly after lunch I submitted a hardcopy of my Letter of Intent to Her Majesty then shortly e-mailed the electronic version to all the appropriate people. I was happy I got to spend some time Kibitzing with friends and looking around prior to preparing for court as Their Excellencies Herald.
Court was awesome. There was a Lady (whom I had thought was a Peer) get her Golden Dolphin, so peers I am looking to you to keep your eyes on her, much congratulations to you! Then while running Their Excellencies’ Court we had some fun with Their Majesties in their wisdom bestow my friends of mine awards as the Baron and Baroness had also just recognized them. Then my Second Herald, jumped in and called me into court ( I thought I was award proof at the Baronial Level and here they go proving me wrong 😅) as Sanada Tatsuko… while being honored with a Silver Horn for being TE Clerk Signet and Royal Secretary, His Majesty once again… questioned my name and proceeded to honor me with a Coral Branch as Sara van Eerde 🤯. I hadn’t thought anyone had noticed my artwork so that was an honor (also I didn’t kneel because of a bad knee, please forgive me, I didn’t want to go to all fours to get back up).
After finishing TE’s court, Their Majesties’ continued their court. I spied with my herald’s eye a name of a friend on the docket and asked Her Majesty if I may go grab her…. Turns out she had moved from where I had last saw her before court.😕 Never fear thanks to the aid of some friends I found her in a dazed state and helped her to Their Majesties Court. She was shaking not necessarily knowing what was going on and I was in tears of joy for my friend being honored, just earlier in the day I was telling people of her good works and that she should be recommended for this award.
Court ended with a great laugh and joy as (then) Lady Amy Sparrow was elevated and awarded her Laurel. I need to remember her infamous quoting of Mistress Molly…. The look on Her Majesty’s face when Mistress Amy said it was priceless. 🙈🙉🙊
The evening was finished off with dinner with some friends (thank you!!) and a nice drive home.
The next day was a thrilling adventure of being a DM to 4 fearless fighters for 7 hours. 🙂 Which in itself was another adventure this past weekend. 🤪
For the story behind each of my names go to the about me page.😊
And for the record Your Majesty; Sara van Eerde is at your service to the dream <curtsies>.
I had a blast while at Crown Tournament yesterday. It was a pleasure to serve at the MOL table for the event.
VIVAT to their Majesties King Ragnarr and Queen Lynette!
VIVAT to their Highnesses Prince Christoph & Princess Adelhait!
VIVAT to Atlantia!
Phew! This month has flown by! Some positive life changes occurred that have kept me busy this month. It was a pleasure to run the Minister of Lists tables at Queen’s Rapier Championship and I could not have done it without the help of my fellow MOLs. Next up for me is Crown Tournament, some scroll work and then off Holiday Faire where I’ll be assisting my Baron and Baroness. 🙂
I survived Pennsic! I enjoyed having a few days in camp. I enjoyed working at Herald’s Point doing name submissions and working in the Artist’s Tent drawing, inking, colouring and organizing. I took two heraldic classes while at Pennsic as well.
Sadly while at Pennsic I did not get as much sleep as normal and spend the rest of the month to recover and I am still not sure if I have fully caught up yet…
For September, I assisted my Baron & Baroness at Stierbach’s Baronial Birthday.
In September real life (work) it is the busiest month for the year, so I will be radio silent until early/mid-October (sleep recover and adjustments with shift changes). I am MOL-IC for QRC so I look forward to having front row seats to the fighting while working 🙂
After enjoying the holiday, and doing a few heraldic consults, time to get busy sewing for Pennsic. Will i get it all done, I don’t know! Eep!
While things were slow we got a chance to take a picture. 🙂
I am grateful to have a friend like Seraphina in my life who became a MOL and a Herald about the same time as me. She always helps me see another perspective on things and while I excelled in MOL-ing, she excelled in Heraldry. I am glad we got to spend some time together this weekend and look forward to hanging out with her more at KWHSS.
While I have never been a resident of the Barony of Caer Mear, it and it’s Gem Jousts will always hold a special place in my heart.
When I joined the SCA my first event was Fall Crown Tournament 2009. I didn’t stay for the evening court going out to dinner with five people instead. At dinner, I remember being impressed with the family I sat across from engaging and including their young son at the table and with the table. They were kind and sweet playing with him and talking with the rest of us. It was that dinner that made up my mind that these people in my local group where people I wanted to know, spend time with. That dinner sealed the deal so to speak. 🙂
My next few events I go to and start discovering more of the SCA and actually get to a few courts and see the magic of the dream. One thing was calling of newcomers. My first court I felt odd, since while newish I had already been to an event (just not a court) and had been a paid member for 3 months prior to my first event. So I kept in my seat those courts. Then Saphire Joust XII came. I went to the Royal Court and the following day the Baronial Court.
At that court, Their Excellencies called forth all newcomers and those who it was their first time attending an event in the Barony of Caer Mear. Seeing as it was my first time at an Event in Caer Mear, I went up. I was given a small token of (8″ inches or so) blue & green cord of Kumihimo on a keyring. It immediately went onto my keys and stayed there until it kept falling off, at which point I tucked it away with my precious things from the SCA since I didn’t want to lose it. A few years later, in 2014, at Ruby Joust III, I was honoured with an Opal.
I have worked at the Gem Jousts as a Minister of the lists since 2012 (I think, I have lost count and wasn’t documenting my service then). The past two years I have served at the table for the Rapier field, as the R-MIC is a member of my household and had asked me to serve (sorry, equestrian field: I miss you guys!). This year I quickly reached a state of punchy silliness due to lack of sleep over the weekend from circumstances outside of the event).
I knew the MOL-IC presence was requested at the Baronial Court, I attended to cheer on and support my friend. I was thrilled to see her given thanks then later honoured with The Merlon of Caer Mear, as I know she works her heart out to serve the fighters on the field as MOL. Feeling young a heart (no sleep stupid remember) I tried to go up with the childern, but my friend held me back, even though I had stolen her ‘wanted’ poster. What I didn’t expect was for her(the MOLIC), the RMIC and the ACMIC to call me out/nod to me for my service that weekend. Per Her Excellencies request in court, I met with her (after hiding a certain MOLIC’s wanted poster <angelic, innocent face>). There she was kind to give me another token from Caer Mear, a necklace that was handmade by one of her artisans.
I do not know who made these pieces of Largess that have come to me via Caer Mear, but I want all artisans to know thank you. These two pieces are incredibly special to me since I am not from their barony, yet in their own way choose to be inclusive. So He’shaw to the Largess makers! For the little and large trinkets you made your Royalty does matter and is importent to those who receive it, even if you don’t know it.
As I breathe a sigh of relief that Fighters were able to fight and while there were a few first-round hiccups, the Rapier MOL table ran fabulously. I wish to thank the fighters for their patience and kindness during that hiccup.
He-shaw (or Ka’plaugh) to the Fighters of the event!
To the MOLs at the rapier table: Thank you for your hard work and kindness to the fighters and to me.
Thank you to Caer Mear for such a wonderful event.
I hope everyone made it home safely and with dry canvas.
